Meta Description Generator

Enter your page title, main keyword and a few benefits. The tool fills proven sentence patterns and shows variants that fit the usual snippet length.

Runs in your browser No sign-up

Short phrases that read well mid-sentence, such as "free returns".

Leave empty to use generic ones such as "Learn more today."

Used in some patterns; the title is used when empty.

Variants

Enter at least a title or a keyword to see variants.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page title and the main keyword people search for.
  2. List two to five benefits or facts about the page, one per line.
  3. Optionally add a call to action and your brand name.
  4. Compare the variants: length, estimated pixel width and keyword position are shown for each.
  5. Copy the one you like, edit it if needed, and paste it into your page's meta description.

How it works

This generator is rule-based, not AI. It has eight sentence patterns (for example "Looking for {keyword}? {brand} offers {points}."). For each pattern it tries up to four of your points, with and without a call to action, and, only if the text is still too short, with a neutral extra sentence such as "Find out more about [keyword] at [brand].". It keeps the richest version between 140 and 158 characters. Points are joined as a natural list for your language. If nothing fits, the closest version is shown and marked; one that is still too long is cut at a sentence end or a word boundary.

The pixel width is measured in your browser with a 14 px Arial-like font, the size search results usually use. Google shows roughly 920 px of description on desktop (two lines) and about 680 px in some mobile layouts, but it often rewrites descriptions or picks text from the page instead, so length is a guide, not a guarantee.

The keyword position tells you where the main keyword first appears: in the first 20 characters, within the first 70, or later. Starting with the keyword is a common habit, but readable, accurate text matters more than placement. Grammar depends on your inputs: read every variant before using it.

Examples

Product category page

Keyword "handmade ceramic mugs" with three benefits gives variants like "Looking for handmade ceramic mugs? Clayfold Studio offers glazed by hand…" in the 140–158 range.

Local service

Keyword "emergency plumber in Leeds" with points "24/7 call-outs", "fixed prices" and "no call-out fee" and the call to action "Call now".

Blog article

Title "How to Repot a Monstera", keyword "repot a monstera", points describing the steps covered, call to action "Read the guide".

Frequently asked questions

Why 140 to 158 characters?

Longer descriptions are often cut off in search results, and much shorter ones waste space. Search engines truncate by pixel width, not characters, so the tool also shows the estimated width.

Does a meta description affect rankings?

Google says the meta description is not a ranking factor, but a clear one can improve how many people click your result. Google may also show other text from your page instead.

Is this AI-generated?

No. It fills fixed sentence patterns with your words, entirely in your browser. That makes it predictable but means you should read each variant and fix any awkward grammar.

What does Shuffle points do?

It changes the order of your points at random, so the patterns pick different combinations and you get new variants to compare.
