How to use it
- Enter the page title and a one- or two-sentence description.
- Add the canonical URL and choose whether search engines may index the page and follow its links.
- Fill in the Open Graph image and any fields that should differ from the title and description, and pick a Twitter card type.
- Copy the generated HTML or download it, and paste it inside the <head> of your page.
How it works
The generator writes only the tags you need. Every value is HTML-escaped (& < > " and ' become entities), so a title containing quotes or angle brackets cannot break the markup.
What each tag does: charset tells the browser the text encoding and should come first in the head; viewport makes the page lay out at the device's width on phones; the title appears in browser tabs and search results; the meta description may be used as the search snippet but is not a ranking factor; the canonical link tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page with duplicates; robots with noindex keeps a page out of search results, and nofollow asks crawlers not to follow its links. A robots tag only works if crawlers can fetch the page, so do not also block it in robots.txt.
Open Graph tags (og:…) control link previews in many social and chat apps. If og:title, og:description or og:url are empty, the tool reuses the title, description and canonical URL. Platforms that read Twitter card tags fall back to the Open Graph values for title, description and image, so only twitter:card is written.
Examples
Blog post
Title, description, canonical URL, an og:image of 1200×630 and summary_large_image produce about ten lines that cover search results and link previews.
Thank-you page kept out of search
Untick “Allow indexing” to add <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow">. The page still works for visitors but should not appear in search results.
A title with quotes
The title Ask "Anything" & <Learn> is written as Ask "Anything" & <Learn>, which browsers display exactly as typed.
Frequently asked questions
Does the meta keywords tag help SEO?
No. Major search engines have ignored meta keywords for ranking for many years, so this generator does not include it.
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter card tags?
Usually only twitter:card is needed in addition to Open Graph, because the title, description and image fall back to the og: values.
Where do these tags go?
Inside the <head> element of each page. In frameworks such as Next.js, WordPress themes or static site generators, use their metadata settings to output the same tags.
Should every page have a canonical tag?
It is good practice, especially when the same content is reachable through several URLs (tracking parameters, sorting options, http and https). A page can point to itself as canonical.
