How it works
Rates are the euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank, published once a day on working days at about 16:00 CET and provided by the open Frankfurter API. A cross rate such as USD → GBP is calculated through the euro.
Reference rates are for information only. Banks, card networks and exchange offices use their own rates and add fees, so the amount you actually pay or receive will differ.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the rate different from my bank's?
Banks and payment providers add a margin to the market rate and may charge fees. This converter shows the official ECB reference rate without any margin.
How often are the rates updated?
The ECB publishes new reference rates once per working day, around 16:00 CET. On weekends and holidays the last published rate is shown, with its date.
Can I convert GBP back to USD?
Yes. Type in the GBP field, or use the swap button.
