How to use it
- Choose or drop one or more AVIF files.
- Adjust the options, such as quality or background colour, if shown.
- Convert, then download each PNG file or all of them as a ZIP.
How it works
AVIF is a newer format based on the AV1 video codec. It often produces the smallest files at a given quality and supports transparency, but encoding is slower and support in older software is limited.
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency support. It is ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos are much larger than as JPG or WebP.
PNG is lossless, so the result keeps every pixel of the decoded AVIF image; it may be larger than the original. Converting re-encodes the image, which removes EXIF metadata such as camera details and GPS location.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. The browser decodes and re-encodes every image on your device, so the files never leave your computer or phone.
Will converting AVIF to PNG reduce quality?
PNG is lossless, so the result keeps every pixel of the decoded AVIF image; it may be larger than the original.
How many files can I convert at once?
It depends on your plan's image limits, shown on the Pricing page. A free account allows more files per batch than visiting without an account.
Privacy
