How to use it
- Choose or drop a .dxf file (saved as ASCII DXF).
- Pick the paper size and orientation.
- Choose Fit to page, or a fixed scale such as 1:50 and the drawing units.
- Switch off layers you do not want to print, then create and download the PDF.
How it works
The drawing is read with the same pipeline as our DXF to SVG converter (dxf-parser plus our own geometry code) and written as a vector PDF with pdf-lib, so lines stay sharp at any zoom and the file stays small. Supported entities: lines, polylines with arcs, circles, arcs, ellipses, splines (as short segments), SOLID and 3DFACE outlines, TEXT, MTEXT, block references (INSERT, MINSERT) and dimension blocks.
Fit to page scales the visible drawing to the printable area inside a 10 mm margin and centres it. Fixed 1:N uses the drawing units: with millimetres, 1:50 means 50 mm in the drawing become 1 mm on paper. The units are read from $INSUNITS when the file has it; you can change them. If the drawing is larger than the page at that scale, the PDF still opens but is cut off at the edges.
With line weights on, DXF line weights (in mm) are used and lines without one get 0.25 mm. Colours come from the entity, layer or block; white becomes black on paper. Not supported: DWG, binary DXF, paper-space layouts and viewports, hatches, images, line types (dashes), plot styles and multi-page tiling.
Examples
Site plan at 1:200 on A3
A plan drawn in metres: choose A3 landscape, Fixed 1:N, N = 200 and units m. 40 m of the drawing become 200 mm on paper.
Quick PDF of a part drawing
A mechanical part in millimetres: choose A4 landscape and Fit to page, switch off the construction layer and send the PDF for review.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PDF vector or an image?
Vector. Every line, arc and text is a PDF drawing command, so it prints sharply and can be measured in PDF viewers that support it.
How do I check the scale is right?
Print at 100 % (no 'fit to page' in the print dialog) and measure a known dimension. The tool shows the scale it used after creating the PDF.
Can it print paper-space layouts with title blocks?
No. Only model space is drawn. If your title block is in a layout, copy it into model space in your CAD program, or export the layout to PDF there.
Can I convert DWG files?
No. Save or export the drawing as DXF (ASCII) in your CAD program first.
Privacy
The DXF file is read and the PDF is created in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored. If the drawing contains text, the Noto Sans font is loaded from this website. Only an anonymous event that the tool was used is counted.
