How to use it
- Choose Image to read a QR code from a photo or screenshot, or Camera to scan one live.
- For an image, choose the file. For the camera, pick the front or back camera and click Start camera.
- Read the decoded content. Links, Wi-Fi details, contacts, phone numbers and email addresses are recognised and shown separately.
- Copy what you need. A link only opens if you click Open link.
How it works
Images are decoded in your browser. The tool first uses the browser's built-in BarcodeDetector where available (Chrome on Android and some desktop browsers) and otherwise the open-source jsQR library. Because a QR code in a large or noisy photo is often easier to find at a smaller size, the image is tried at several sizes, and both dark-on-light and inverted codes are checked.
In camera mode, frames from the video are analysed on your device a few times per second and are never uploaded or recorded. Scanning stops as soon as a code is found, and the camera is released when you click Stop or leave the page. If the browser or the site blocks camera access, use the image mode instead: take a photo with your camera app and open it here.
Only http and https links are treated as links; other schemes such as javascript: are shown as plain text. The link is never opened automatically. Check the website name before you open it, especially for codes on parking meters, posters or stickers, which are sometimes covered with fraudulent codes.
Examples
Checking a link before opening
A poster's QR code decodes to https://example.com/offer. The website name is shown as example.com, and it opens only when you click Open link.
Wi-Fi code
WIFI:T:WPA;S:CafeGuest;P:coffee2026;; is shown as network CafeGuest, password coffee2026, security WPA, each with a copy button.
Screenshot
A screenshot of a QR code from a PDF ticket is decoded without printing it or using a second phone.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the camera start?
The browser needs your permission, the page must be served over https, and the site must allow camera access. If it is blocked, scan from a photo instead.
Are camera images sent anywhere?
No. Each frame is analysed in your browser and discarded. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Why can't it find the QR code in my photo?
The code may be blurred, too small, cut off at the edge or photographed at a steep angle. Crop closer to the code, keep its white border, and use a sharper photo.
Can it read barcodes too?
No. It reads QR codes only. One-dimensional barcodes such as EAN or Code 128 are not decoded.
Privacy
Images and camera frames are decoded entirely in your browser. They are never uploaded, recorded or stored, and the decoded content is not sent anywhere.
