How to use it
- Choose whether to include screen or tab audio and your microphone, and pick a quality.
- Select Start recording and choose the screen, window or tab to share in your browser's dialog.
- Pause and resume as needed. Select Stop and save, or use the browser's own Stop sharing button.
- Watch the preview and download the video file.
How it works
The tool uses two browser features: screen capture (getDisplayMedia), which shows the browser's own dialog for choosing what to share, and MediaRecorder, which encodes the captured video. Chrome, Edge and Firefox record WebM (VP9 or VP8 video with Opus audio); Safari records MP4. The chosen format is the first one your browser reports as supported.
Audio from the shared tab or screen can only be captured where the browser offers it: Chrome and Edge for tabs, and for the whole screen on Windows. Your microphone, if enabled, is mixed with that audio into a single track.
Mobile browsers on Android and iOS generally do not offer screen capture, so the tool only works on desktop and laptop computers. The video is built in memory while you record and is lost if you close or reload the tab before downloading it.
Examples
Bug report for a developer
Share only the browser tab with the problem, keep tab audio off, record the steps at Standard quality and attach the WebM file to the ticket.
Short walkthrough with narration
Share an app window, enable the microphone, pause while you prepare the next step and stop when done; a five-minute walkthrough at Standard is around 150 MB.
Frequently asked questions
Is the recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The browser records into this tab's memory and the download saves it straight from there. Only your Pro status is checked with the site.
Why does it not work on my phone?
Android and iOS browsers do not let websites capture the screen. Use the phone's built-in screen recorder instead.
Why is there no sound from my screen?
Screen audio is only available in some browsers and only when you tick the audio option in the sharing dialog. Firefox and Safari record video without system audio; Chrome on macOS can capture audio from tabs but not from the whole screen.
Can I get an MP4 file?
Safari records MP4. Chrome and Firefox record WebM, which plays in browsers, VLC and most editors. The tool does not convert between formats.
Privacy
Screen, tab audio and microphone are captured only after you choose them in the browser's permission dialogs, and only while you record. The video is kept in this tab's memory and saved when you download it; it is not uploaded, stored or included in analytics. Only an anonymous event that the tool was used is counted, and your plan status is loaded from the site's account service.
