Excel to HTML

Choose an .xlsx file and get its data as an HTML table you can paste into a web page or email template. Runs in your browser.

Runs in your browser No sign-up

or drop it here. The file stays on your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop an .xlsx file.
  2. Pick a sheet, or All sheets for one table per sheet.
  3. Decide whether the first row is a header.
  4. Check the preview, then copy the code or download the .html file.

How it works

Every cell is written into a table cell with its text HTML-escaped, so characters such as < and & cannot break the page or inject markup. Line breaks inside a cell become <br>. With the header option the first row goes into <thead> as <th> cells. Numeric cells get class="num" so you can right-align them with CSS; the downloaded file includes a small stylesheet that does this.

Values are the stored values: formula results as saved in the file, TRUE/FALSE, and dates in ISO 8601. Number formats, fonts, colours, borders, column widths, merged cells, images and charts are not reproduced. Every row has the same number of cells; trailing empty rows and columns are left out.

The preview is shown in a sandboxed frame that cannot run scripts or load anything from the internet.

Examples

A price table on a website

Convert a price list sheet to an HTML table, paste it into the CMS's code view and let the site's CSS style it.

Several sheets in one page

With All sheets, each sheet becomes an h2 heading with its own table in a single HTML file.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't the colours and borders from Excel appear?

Only the data is converted, so the table fits the design of the page where you use it. Style it with your own CSS.

Why is 25 % shown as 0.25?

The table contains the stored cell values. Number formats such as percentages, currencies and thousands separators are not applied.

Is the HTML safe to paste into my site?

Yes. All cell text is escaped, so content from the spreadsheet is shown as text and cannot add tags, scripts or links.

Privacy

The workbook is read in your browser and the HTML is created on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or included in analytics; only an anonymous event that the tool was used is counted.
