How to use it
- Choose or drop a .psd or .psb file.
- Look at the preview; by default it is the flattened image saved by Photoshop.
- Untick layers to hide them, or tick hidden ones to show them.
- Download the PNG, or every layer as a separate PNG in a ZIP.
How it works
The PSD is read with the open-source ag-psd library in your browser. Photoshop normally stores a flattened copy of the whole image; when it is present and you have not changed any layer, that exact image is used, so blend modes, effects and adjustment layers look as they did in Photoshop.
When you change layer visibility, or the file has no flattened image, the tool combines the layers itself: from the bottom up, with normal blending, layer opacity and group opacity, and hidden groups hiding their layers. Blend modes such as Multiply or Screen, clipping masks, layer and vector masks, layer styles (shadows, strokes), adjustment layers, smart filters and text re-rendering are not reproduced; such layers are marked approximate.
The PNG keeps transparency. 16-bit and 32-bit files are reduced to 8 bits per channel. Layer PNGs in the ZIP have the layer's own size (not the canvas size) and are numbered from the bottom. CMYK and some unusual colour modes may not be supported.
Examples
Logo without its background
A PSD with a logo and a white background layer: untick the background and download a PNG with a transparent background.
Handing over assets
A web mock-up with icons on separate layers: download all layers as PNGs in one ZIP and pick the icons you need.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the result look different after I hide a layer?
The saved flattened image cannot be edited, so after a change the tool combines the layers itself, with normal blending only. Effects, blend modes and adjustments are then missing.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent in the PNG.
Can I open PSB (large document) files?
Yes, if the image stays within the size limit of about 60 megapixels and your plan's file size limit.
Why can some layers not be ticked?
Those layers have no pixels of their own, for example adjustment or empty layers, so there is nothing to show or export.
Privacy
The PSD is read and converted in your browser. It is not uploaded or stored, and only an anonymous event that the tool was used is counted.
