How to use it
- Enter the item price, quantity and what you charge for shipping and gift wrap.
- Enter your costs: materials and labour per item, postage and packaging.
- Choose the payment processing preset for your country and check every fee value against Etsy's current fee page.
- Tick Offsite Ads or currency conversion if they apply to this order.
- Read the fee breakdown, profit and margin; enter a target profit to get the price you need.
How it works
The transaction fee is a percentage of the order total: item price × quantity plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge. Payment processing is a percentage of the order total including any sales tax, plus a fixed amount per order. The listing fee is charged once for each item sold, because Etsy renews the listing after every sale. Offsite Ads, currency conversion and the regulatory operating fee are percentages of the order total; the Offsite Ads fee can be capped per order. VAT on fees, if you set it, is added on top of all fees.
Profit is the order total minus all fees and your costs. Margin is profit divided by the order total. The break-even price is the lowest item price, to the cent, at which profit is zero with everything else unchanged; the target-profit price works the same way.
The default rates are the commonly published ones (for example a 0.20 USD listing fee, 6.5 % transaction fee and 3 % + 0.25 USD processing in the US) and are only a starting point. Etsy's rates differ between countries, change over time and can include extra fees such as subscription, advertising or shipping label costs that this calculator does not cover. Check the numbers against your own Etsy payment account.
Examples
US sale of a 25 USD print
Price 25, shipping charged 5, costs 8 + 4.50 postage + 0.50 packaging: fees are 0.20 + 1.95 + 1.15 = 3.30 USD, profit 13.70 USD, a 45.7 % margin.
The same order through Offsite Ads
Ticking Offsite Ads at 15 % adds 4.50 USD in fees, and profit drops to 9.20 USD. The break-even price rises accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the transaction fee charged on shipping?
Yes. Etsy's transaction fee applies to the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge, which is how this calculator works.
Are these fee rates exact for my shop?
Not necessarily. They are editable defaults. Payment processing rates depend on the country of your bank account, and Etsy changes its fees from time to time. Check Etsy's fee page and your payment account statements.
Why does sales tax change the fees?
Payment processing is charged on the full amount the buyer pays, including sales tax or VAT collected. The other fees are calculated without tax.
What does break-even price mean here?
The lowest item price at which the order covers all fees and the costs you entered, so profit is zero. Shipping charged, gift wrap and costs stay as entered.
