How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a PDF file.
  2. Pick JPEG or PNG and a resolution. 150 DPI suits most screen uses; 300 DPI is for printing.
  3. Optionally limit the conversion to certain pages, such as 1-3, 7.
  4. Select Convert, then download a single image or all images as a ZIP file.

How it works

Pages are drawn with pdf.js, the PDF engine used by Firefox, onto a canvas at the chosen resolution and then encoded as JPEG or PNG by your browser. DPI means pixels per inch of the page: an A4 page is 1240 × 1753 pixels at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3507 pixels at 300 DPI. Very large pages are reduced to stay within browser canvas limits.

JPEG gives small files and suits pages with photos; the quality slider trades size for detail. PNG is lossless and keeps text and line art sharp, but files are several times larger. Transparent areas are rendered on white.

Rendering is very close to what PDF viewers show, but rare features (some blend modes, unusual fonts or broken files) may look slightly different. Several images are packed into an uncompressed ZIP file because JPEG and PNG are already compressed.

PDFs that need a password to open cannot be converted. PDFs with only usage restrictions usually work.

Examples

Slide for a social media post

Convert only page 5 of a presentation at 150 DPI as JPEG to get a single image you can upload directly.

Archiving a scanned document as images

All 24 pages at 300 DPI as JPEG at 85% quality produce a ZIP with files named scan-page-01.jpg to scan-page-24.jpg.

Frequently asked questions

What resolution should I choose?

72 DPI matches the page size on a normal screen, 150 DPI looks sharp on most screens including phones, and 300 DPI is the usual print resolution. Higher resolutions take longer and produce larger files.

Can I extract the original images embedded in the PDF?

No. This tool renders whole pages as pictures. Embedded photos are part of the rendered page, at the resolution you choose.

Why does conversion take a while on my phone?

Every page is drawn in your browser at high resolution. Long documents at 300 DPI need a lot of memory and time on mobile devices; choose fewer pages or a lower resolution.

Privacy
