How to use it

  1. Paste text or open a .txt file.
  2. Choose the font, how long lines wrap and whether to number lines.
  3. Set the page size, orientation, margins and font size.
  4. Select Create PDF and download the file.

How it works

Every line of the text starts a new line in the PDF and spacing is kept exactly: several spaces stay several spaces and tabs are expanded to four-column tab stops, so tables and code aligned with spaces stay aligned in the monospaced font (Noto Sans Mono). The proportional font (Noto Sans) reads better for prose.

Lines wider than the page continue on the next line: Wrap at spaces breaks between words (a word longer than a line is split), Break anywhere fills each line to the edge, which suits logs and data. With Line numbers, each original line gets its number in a margin column; continuation lines are not numbered. Page numbers appear centred at the bottom.

Text opened from a file is read as UTF-8. Control characters are removed. Characters missing from the embedded fonts are drawn as small images with your device's fonts. Text is not justified and no automatic hyphenation is applied.

Printing a log file

A server log with long lines is converted in landscape with Break anywhere and line numbers, so every entry is readable and can be referenced by line.

A script printed in Noto Sans Mono at 9 pt with line numbers keeps its indentation for a code review on paper.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my text not aligned in columns?

Column alignment made with spaces only works with the monospaced font. Switch Font to Monospaced.

My file shows strange characters. Why?

Files are read as UTF-8. Text saved in an older encoding (such as Windows-1254 or ISO-8859-9) shows wrong letters; save it as UTF-8 in a text editor first.

Can I convert Word or Markdown files here?

This tool treats everything as plain text. Use Word to PDF or Markdown to PDF to keep headings and formatting.

The text is laid out and the PDF is created in your browser. The fonts are loaded from this site; the text is not uploaded, stored or included in analytics. Only an anonymous event that the tool was used is counted.
