Tip: Twitch can also make the smaller sizes itself. In the simple upload you add one square image from 112 to 4,096 px (up to 1 MB) and Twitch resizes it; the 112 px file here works for that.

    How to use it

    1. Choose, drop or paste your emote artwork. A square PNG with a transparent background works best.
    2. Choose Fit to keep the whole image or Fill to crop it to a square, and trim empty transparent borders if needed.
    3. Check each size on the light and dark previews, especially the small 28 px one.
    4. Download each PNG or all sizes as a ZIP, then upload them in your Twitch Creator Dashboard under Emotes.

    How it works

Twitch shows emotes at 28 px in chat and uses the 56 and 112 px versions on high-resolution screens and in emote menus. This tool draws your image into each square on a canvas in your browser, using repeated halving and high-quality smoothing so small sizes stay sharp, and saves transparent PNG files.

Fit keeps the whole image and fills the rest of the square with transparency; Fill crops to a square around the point you choose. Trim first removes empty transparent space so the artwork uses the whole emote. A transparent margin can be added if the artwork touches the edges.

The 1 MB limit shown is from Twitch's guidelines at the time of writing; platform rules can change. The tool makes still PNGs only: animated GIFs are reduced to their first frame. It is not affiliated with Twitch.

    Examples

    Large square artwork

A 1000×1000 px transparent PNG becomes 112, 56 and 28 px PNGs, ready for manual upload, with each file size shown.

    Wide image

A 1600×900 photo with Fill and the crop centred on a face gives a square emote; with Fit it is letterboxed with transparent space above and below.

    Too much empty space

A sticker-style PNG with a wide transparent border: Trim makes the character fill the 28 px emote instead of appearing tiny.

    Frequently asked questions

    What size are Twitch emotes?

Three square sizes: 112×112, 56×56 and 28×28 px. Twitch also accepts one square image from 112 to 4096 px and makes the smaller sizes itself.

Why does my emote look blurry at 28 px?

Fine details and thin lines disappear at 28 px. Use bold shapes, thick outlines and few small details, and check the 28 px preview on both backgrounds before uploading.

Can I make animated emotes here?

No. Only the first frame of a GIF is used and the output is a still PNG.

Are the size limits guaranteed to be current?

No. They reflect Twitch's guidelines when this tool was written. If the upload form says otherwise, follow the form.
