How to use it

  1. Choose a genre and a naming style, or leave both on mixed.
  2. Optionally set the first letter and length you want.
  3. Click the lock next to names you like; they stay in the list.
  4. Click Generate again for fresh ideas, then copy one name, all names or only the kept ones.

How it works

Names are built from short word lists written for this tool: adjectives and nouns for each genre, a shared pool of evocative words, number words and word parts for one-word names. A pattern is chosen for the style (for example "The" plus a plural noun, or a noun "of" another noun), its slots are filled at random and the result is checked against your filters. Duplicates are skipped.

Random choices use your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so lists are not repeated from a fixed sequence. There is no AI and no database of existing bands: a generated name may by chance match a real band or a registered trademark, so search for it (streaming services, social networks, trademark registers) before you print merch.

The "Starts with" filter ignores a leading "The", so "The Hollow Comets" counts as H. Lengths count every character including spaces. Rare letters such as Q, X or Z have few matching words, so you may get fewer names.

Examples

Garage rock trio

Genre Rock, style The …: results such as "The Gravel Rebels" or "The Reckless Jukeboxes".

Electronic solo project

Genre Electronic, style One word, length Short: names like "Neonwave" or "Starspark" that work as a short artist alias.

Names that start with M

Set Starts with to M and generate several times, locking the ones you like, until you have a shortlist to share with the band.

Frequently asked questions

Are these names free to use?

The tool does not claim any rights to the names, but it does not check whether someone already uses one. Search online and in your country's trademark register before you commit to a name.

Why do I sometimes get fewer names than I asked for?

Strict filters, such as a rare first letter combined with a short length, leave few possible combinations. The tool stops after a fixed number of tries and tells you when it found fewer.

What does the lock do?

Locked (kept) names stay at the top of the list when you generate again, so you can collect favourites. They are only kept while the page is open.

Is it really random?

Yes. Each choice uses crypto.getRandomValues from your browser, without modulo bias, so every word in a list is equally likely.

Privacy

Everything happens in your browser. Your filters and the generated names are not sent anywhere or stored; kept names disappear when you close the page.
