How to use it
- Choose Numbers, Pick from a list, or Coin & dice.
- For numbers, set the minimum, maximum, how many you need and the decimal places; tick “No repeats” for lottery-style draws.
- For a list, paste one item per line and choose how many to pick. Each line can be picked only once.
- Press Generate or Pick, then copy the results. Press again for a new draw.
How it works
Numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues, the cryptographically secure generator built into your browser, not from Math.random. To turn random bits into a number in your range without favouring some values, the tool uses rejection sampling: when a random 32-bit value falls in the incomplete slice at the top that cannot be divided evenly by the size of the range, it is thrown away and a new one is drawn. A simple “random % range” would make low numbers slightly more likely.
The minimum and maximum are both included. With decimal places, the range is divided into steps of that size (0.01 for two decimals) and every step is equally likely, so 0 to 1 with two decimals gives one of 101 values. “No repeats” draws without replacement, like a raffle; it is impossible to draw more unique numbers than the range contains, and the tool tells you when that happens.
The list picker shuffles the lines with a Fisher–Yates shuffle and takes the first N, so every item has the same chance and no line is picked twice. Duplicate lines are treated as separate entries, so a name listed twice has two chances. Empty lines and spaces at the start and end of lines are ignored.
The coin is heads or tails with equal probability, and each die gives 1 to 6 with equal probability. Results are not stored, so nobody, including us, can see or reproduce a draw.
Examples
Lottery-style draw
Minimum 1, maximum 49, how many 6, “No repeats” and “Sort” on: you get six different numbers such as 4, 11, 23, 30, 37, 45.
Pick giveaway winners
Paste the list of entrants, one name per line, and pick 3. Each entrant can win only once, and every one has the same chance.
Random decimal for testing
Minimum 0, maximum 1 and 3 decimal places gives values such as 0.274 or 0.901, each of the 1,001 possible values equally likely.
Frequently asked questions
Are the numbers truly random?
They come from your browser's cryptographically secure generator, which is seeded by the operating system from hardware events. It is suitable for draws and security purposes; for regulated lotteries, follow the rules that require certified equipment.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes. From 1 to 6 can return 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, each with the same probability.
Why do I get an error with “No repeats”?
Without repeats you cannot draw more numbers than exist in the range: from 1 to 10 there are only 10 different whole numbers. Increase the range, add decimal places, or allow repeats.
Can someone check or repeat my draw later?
No. Nothing is stored or seeded from a value you could re-enter. For a public draw, record the screen or copy the results immediately.
