How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a .docx file.
  2. Choose the page size, margins and text size, and whether to number the pages.
  3. Select Convert to PDF.
  4. Download the PDF.

How it works

The tool reads the document with the open-source mammoth library, which turns Word's structure into clean HTML: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, links, numbered and bulleted lists (also nested), tables and pictures. That structure is then laid out on PDF pages with the site's own layout engine and written with pdf-lib. Headings stay with the following text, long tables continue on the next page with their header row repeated, and wide pictures are scaled to the page.

Text is set in Noto Sans (Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, with bold and italic) and code-like text in Noto Sans Mono, and the fonts are embedded so the PDF looks the same everywhere. Characters outside those scripts are drawn as images using your system's fonts.

This is a structural conversion, not a pixel copy of Word's layout. The original fonts, colours, paragraph alignment, line spacing, page breaks, columns, headers, footers, footnote positions, text boxes, shapes, charts and equations are not reproduced. For an exact copy, use Word's own Save as PDF. Old .doc files must be saved as .docx first. How large a file you can convert depends on your plan.

Examples

A report with tables

A 10-page report with numbered headings, a 60-row table and two screenshots becomes a PDF in which the table continues across pages with its header row repeated on each one.

A CV on a phone

On a phone without Word, choose CV.docx, pick A4 with normal margins and download a PDF you can attach to a job application.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the PDF look different from my Word document?

The tool keeps the content and structure (headings, lists, tables, pictures) but not Word's visual formatting. Your fonts, colours, alignment, columns, headers and footers are not reproduced, and pages break wherever the text fills them.

Can I convert .doc files?

No, only .docx. Open the .doc file in Word, LibreOffice Writer or Google Docs and save or download it as .docx, then convert that file.

Some pictures are missing. Why?

Pictures in EMF or WMF format, which Word uses for some drawings and charts, cannot be converted in the browser. Charts and shapes drawn in Word are also not included. Pasting them into Word as PNG pictures solves this.

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?

Yes, for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic text, which is written with embedded fonts. Text in other scripts is drawn as small images and cannot be selected.
