How to use it
- Download your statement as a PDF from online banking and choose it here.
- Select Find transactions; the pages are read in your browser.
- Check the preview, the balance check and the detected date format; correct the column meanings if needed.
- Download the transactions as CSV or as an Excel workbook.
How it works
The tool reads every piece of text on each page with its position (pdf.js). Text on the same baseline forms a line, and wide gaps split a line into cells. Lines that start with a date and contain an amount are treated as transactions; their cells are grouped into columns by position. Each column's meaning is guessed from the header words (Date, Description, Paid out, Paid in, Debit, Credit, Amount, Balance and similar) or, without a header, from its content. You can change every column's meaning.
Dates such as 31/01/2026, 01/31/2026, 2026-01-31, 31.01.26, 31 Jan 2026 and Jan 31, 2026 are recognised; day-first or month-first is detected from dates with a day above 12. Amounts can use a decimal point or comma, thousands separators, a minus sign before or after the number, parentheses, or CR/DR markers. With separate debit and credit columns, money out becomes negative. Text lines below a transaction are added to its description; repeated page headers, page numbers and brought-forward lines are skipped, and opening and closing balances are shown separately.
If a balance column exists, every row is checked: previous balance plus amount must equal the new balance. This catches most misread rows and sign errors. The tool only works on text-based PDFs: scanned statements are images and need OCR first. Unusual layouts, such as amounts in the middle of descriptions or transactions spread over several columns of a page, may not be read correctly, so always compare the totals with the statement.
Examples
UK current account
Columns Date, Description, Paid out, Paid in and Balance: card payments become negative amounts, wrapped merchant names are joined into one description, and the balance check confirms every row.
US credit card statement
Dates like 01/13/2026 are detected as month-first. If purchases come out positive, turn on Flip the sign of all amounts so spending is negative in your budget.
European statement
Amounts like 1.234,56 with CR for credits are read with a decimal comma; tick Decimal comma in CSV so Excel opens the file with numbers in the right columns.
Frequently asked questions
Is my bank statement uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and read in your browser, and the CSV and XLSX files are created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does it work with scanned statements?
No. A scan is a picture of text, and this tool needs the text itself. Download the statement as a PDF from online banking, which almost always contains real text.
What does the balance check do?
For each row with a balance, it checks that the previous balance plus the amount equals the new balance. Rows that fail usually mean a misread amount, a missing transaction or the wrong column meaning.
Which banks are supported?
There is no list of banks. The tool works from the layout: a date at the start of each transaction line and amounts in columns. Many statements fit this pattern, but some do not; always check the result.
Why are some dates a year off?
Statements that print dates without a year (12 Jan) get the year from the document. For statements that span the new year, check the dates in December and January and correct the year field if needed.
Privacy
The statement PDF is read entirely in your browser; it is not uploaded, stored or logged, and the CSV and XLSX files are created on your device. Only an anonymous count of tool use is recorded, never your data.
